Canadian Boreal Forest Sketchbook page 36
The Aurora Borealis is an infamous phenomenon that appears towards the north pole at night. Since it is visible from Canada, I took this opportunity to slightly detour from my core theme and explore something I find especially fascinating. I learnt how and why it occurs which is all down to particles from the sun reacting with the magnetic field of Earth; the variety of colours comes from the different elements that are reacting and change in altitude. When it comes down to it, the science is fairly simple compared to how complex the spectacle actually appears. It terms of how to apply this research, I could do something with the science or I could just use the visuals.
